The Belles had another fantastic time at LABBS convention in Bournemouth 26th to 29th October 2017. It was an absolutely brilliant convention incorportating both LABBS 17 and European convention (EBC17), and The Belles are so proud to have been a part of it for another year!
We have had a busy and challenging year and getting to perform at convention with our friends around us has been the cherry on top of the cake. Our preparation this year again included coaching from the fantastic and inspiring Cindy Hansen and Mark Hale providing us with great help, inspiration and guidance.
Our fabulous MD and her assistants, along with our hard working music team, provided us with guidance, support and energy building on our fabulous coaching. Lucy inspired us with her determination and commitment, attending our training weekend in September only one month after giving birth to the beautiful Thomas Guess. As well as this our choreo lead Ches taught us most of our choreo from crutches this year without missing a single rehearsal. We are blessed to have such dedicated and committed people leading us and are delighted to have been able to reward and thank them with our performance on Saturday gaining the highest scores ever achieved by The Belles in competition! We scored 72.9% and are currently 9th in the UK!
LABBS competition this year saw 64 Belles on stage including 4 first timers! We are so proud of how hard all of our first timers worked and how well they have fitted in with the rest of the Belles, we couldn’t imagine being there without them.
To top it all off we’re so proud of the hard work of our members Eileen, June, Gill and Jayne who created our beautiful yearbook and came away with the Pitchpipers Trophy for the best Yearbook for the third year in a row!
Every Belle loved the weekend, loving the performance and the emotional roller coaster that is competing. We’re already looking forward to LABBS 2018 in Harrogate!

The Belles are delighted to have been ranked 9th in the UK at the LABBS convention 2017 with our highest score ever and the cherry on top was coming away with three awards!
The Belles were honoured and delighted to have the awards for most improved chorus and director to be presented to them at their Christmas Cracker performance on December 20th, as well as winning the Pitchpipers Yearbook award for the third year in a row.
We had a fantastic night and were honoured to be joined by the Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr John Blundell and his wife deputy lady mayor Lindsey Blundell. The chorus trophy was presented to Belles Chairman Liz Gascoigne and choreo lead Francesca Simmons by Viv Garner, the Events Director for LABBS. The Belles Musical Director Lucy Guess was presented with the Director’s trophy by Brenda Rothwell, ex-
We have had an amazing year with lots of singing, hard work, fun and laughter and being awarded these trophies really rounded off the year wonderfully. We were truly honoured when the Deputy Lord Mayor said it was this type of event made Coventry ideal for the City of Culture. We are proud to be from Coventry and are excited to see what the City of Culture will mean for Coventry and very much hope to be a part of it.
