The Belles had a brilliantly busy Christmas in 2016, with 12 Christmas singouts as well as a come and sing course ‘Christmas with Belles On’.
During Christmas with Belles On with we learnt ‘Let it snow’ over six weeks, whilst developing vocal craft and learning about a cappella skills and. We rounded this off on week 7 (21st Dec) with a Friends and Family Christmas mini-
We had a wide range of singouts, indoor and out, hot and cold, silly and serious, some for fun, some for charity, some for us, a little bit of everything. As always we were proud and delighted to be involved in a number of charity and community singouts and plan to continue this throughout 2017.
The Belles had a fantastic time at LABBS convention in Harrogate 28th to 30th October 2016. It was a great convention, celebrating 40 years of LABBS and The Belles are so proud to have been a part of it!
2016 has been a fantastic year for The Belles, with the fun of convention being the cherry on top. There has been a lot of hard work and preparation leading up to LABBS 2016, with our fantastic coaches Cindy Hansen and Mark Hale providing us with great help, inspiration and guidance.
Our fabulous MD and her assistants, along with our fantastic and hard working music team, provided us with guidance, support and energy building on our fabulous coaching. We were delighted to get it put it all into place on Saturday morning and share our package with the rest of LABBS.
LABBS competition this year saw 68 Belles on stage including 9 first timers, making us the second largest chorus competing this year! We are so proud of how hard all of our first timers worked and how well they have fitted in with the rest of the Belles, we couldn’t imagine being there without them.
To top it all off we’re so proud of the hard work of our members April and Lesley who created our beautiful yearbook and came away with the Pitchpipers Trophy for the best Yearbook for the second year in a row!
Every Belle enjoyed the weekend, loving the performance and the emotional roller coaster that is competing and we’re already looking forward to LABBS 2017 in Bournemouth, which will also be the European convention!
We had a fantastic evening with Jayne Edmonds, a national and international award winning floral designer, for her retirement show. Jayne is a member of the Belles and held her final show as a fundraiser for the Belles. We were wowed by her demonstrations and designs and a lucky few were able to take some home with them having won them in the raffle. Thanks to Jayne for a wonderful show and we wish her all the very best in her retirement.
We have moved! We now rehearse in Warwick Road United Reform Church (URC), 10 Warwick Row, Coventry, CV1 1EX
A Gift To Lift was set up by 22 year old local girl Alex Hopwood in 2013 after she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Alex started by creating and selling handmade gifts that were designed to give a little lift to anyone in need of one. Sadly, in December 2014, Alex lost her battle with the disease but the charity has been carried on by her mother Jacky and close friends and family. All money rasied is to help and support blood cancer sufferers and fund research for the disease. The charity is currently operating an initiative called ‘One Step Closer’. The object of the scheme is for 100 individuals, organisations or businesses to raise £1000 before July 2017 to help fund a holiday home for patients and their family to enjoy.
Galliford Try became involved just in time to join this scheme and has held several fundraisers since. By February 2017 they had reached £923.81, tantalisingly close to their £1000 target.
On 6th April 2017, Galliford Try put on a charity concert at Bedworth Art Centre. The Belles are very proud to have taken part in their concert and thoroughly enjoyed the event and sharing the stage with other local talents. Our very own Francesca Simmons who organised the concert on behalf of Galliford Try performed the opening for the show. She was followed by magician Elizabeth Rogan. In the second half Rory Dulku entertained the audience followed by a closing performance by The Belles.
Galliford Try are delighted to have smashed their target, raising £532.30 at the concert by ticket sales and cake sales, and an overall total of £1426.11!
The Belles are proud and delighted to have started off our summer winning first place in our division at Nuneaton Music Festival.
We received a score of 88 (Distinction)and had amazing feedback from the judge including “good blend and balance of vocal sound”, “strong bass line -
